Zohar SAAR

Industrial Design Student, Shenkar College
Portugal

Biography

I am a fourth-year Industrial Design student at Shenkar College. My work focuses on researching the interaction between people and products to create new and meaningful experiences. For me, design is a primary tool for communication and a way to convey a journey to the user. Throughout my studies, I have gained hands-on experience with a wide variety of materials, which has shaped my technical and creative approach. I am curious and driven by a constant desire to learn and evolve every day. In February 2025, I participated in a student exchange program in Portugal. I strive to bring this curiosity and focus on human experience into every project I create.

About GROWI

GROWI is an urban aeroponic system designed to reconnect residents with nature and each other. Developed by Zohar Saar (Shenkar) and Bárbara Quelhas (ESAD), it transforms underused community areas into productive herbal gardens. The system features SMC material excellence, offering industrial strength and smart transparency. It is highly efficient, saving 95% of water through advanced mist technology while providing 10x more produce in small spaces without harmful toxins. GROWI is a vision for better community living. It fosters "Collective Roots" through local stewardship, shared harvests, and eco-education. By making high-tech cultivation accessible, it empowers neighbors to grow together and live greener. As SMC BMC Design Award finalists, we prove that innovative design can nourish both our environment and our social bonds.
