Mahoor MEHDIKHANI
Biography:
Dr Mahoor Mehdikhani is a dedicated young researcher specializing in the experimental mechanics of composites, currently an FWO postdoctoral fellow at KU Leuven. His research interests include in situ multiscale damage monitoring, (XCT) image processing in composites, and computational micromechanics. He earned his PhD from KU Leuven in 2018, focusing on the effect of voids in carbon fiber-reinforced composites. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. Dr Mehdikhani has 29 published journal articles, +1,000 Scopus citations, and a Scopus h-index of 14, underscoring his significant contributions to the composites field over a period of less than 10 years. He was elected, in July 2024, as a member of the Council of the European Society for Composite Materials (ESCM) and in Nov 2024, as the runner-up for the 2024 CSTE Young Researcher Award.
About Composite Materials Group (CMG):
Composite Materials Group (CMG) is a large research group in the Department of Materials Engineering (MTM) of KU Leuven, where research on polymer matrix composites was started by Prof. Ignaas Verpoest in 1982. Now, CMG is one of the worldwide recognized centers for composite materials research, ranging from very fundamental to very applied and/or industry oriented studies. There are currently five main research themes in our group: Micro- and mesostructural design of composites, Process and application development, Bio-based and sustainable composites, Composites and principles inspired by nature, Physical chemistry of interfaces.
