Biography:

Professor Giangiacomo Minak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Bologna, specializing in Mechanical Design and Machine Elements. He earned his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering in 1999.
His research primarily centers on the mechanical behavior of composite materials, particularly under impact and fatigue loading, aimed at designing lightweight vehicles.
Notably, he contributed to developing solar-powered vehicles such as Emilia 4, which won the American Solar Challenge in 2018 and the European Solar Challenge in 2021, and Emilia 5, which secured victory in the South African Solar Challenge in 2024.
Professor Minak has coordinated several national and international research projects, including the PRIN2015 project "Smart Composite Laminates."
He is also the Coordinator of the Second Cycle Degree in Mechanical Engineering for Sustainability at the University of Bologna.
Throughout his career, he has authored numerous publications in the field of composite materials and structural integrity, with over 5,000 citations and an h-index of 42 on Scopus.
In recognition of his contributions, Professor Minak was listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists in 2020 by Stanford University.
