Efficient Transition to Sustainable Materials In Wind Turbine Blades Through Structural Optimization
As the demand for more energy at a lower cost continues, wind turbines are increasing in size. This brings new design challenges, especially related to sustainability.
To accelerate sustainable growth, Gurit has developed and published the open-source Gurit98m: a 98-metre offshore wind turbine blade model.
The aim is to encourage manufacturer-supplier collaboration, supporting engineering, integration and optimization of blade composite materials.
The presentation will look at several blade designs, with a focus on design optimization to efficiently integrate sustainable core materials such as recycled PET foam, supporting the industry’s pursuit of larger, efficient, and environmentally-responsible blade designs.
