CORENSTOCK - Smart Composite Tanks for Hot Water Storage : Design and Sensors Integration
The Corenstock industrial chair, a partnership between Institut Mines-Télécom and elm.leblanc, aims to transform the heating industry by introducing innovations to enhance the energy efficiency of domestic hot water storage systems. Among these initiatives, alongside intelligent control systems and the development of more efficient heat exchangers, the chair proposes the use of recyclable composite materials as an alternative to the actual stainless steel for the tank structure. This innovation not only extends the lifespan of the tank, by design optimization, but also enables continuous structural health monitoring through the integration of sensors during the filament winding process. However, incorporating these sensors presents challenges regarding the structural integrity of the equipment. To address this, the chair focuses on evaluating the impact of these sensors on mechanical performance and on developing relevant criteria to assess the structure durability.
