Structural Spine for Air Wing
This unique system is both compact and efficient and is suitable for both retrofit and new build applications. It promises to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 30%. It not only complies with the new EU and IMO environmental regulations but it also generates a positive return on investment through the signficant fuel savings it offers.
Why and Whom
January 1st 2025 saw the introduction of the FuelEU Maritime Regulation. This sets stringent greenhouse gas intensity requirements for vessels operating in the EEA. Failure to comply will result in significant financial penalties. GT Wings approached KS Composites and in collaboration with A20 Manufacturing, the AirWing™, a cutting edge wind propulsion system was developed.
Key Benefits
This wind-assisted propulsion system offers unique advantages and directly reduces GHG intensity and qualifies for a reward factor (F_wind) which adjusts a ship's compliance metrics. These reward factors apply regardless of whether the system is actively in use making it a highly practical solution guaranteeing savings for the shipowner.
