MFFD GKN Fokker Lower Shell Mini Demo
The Toray CETEX 1225 LM PAEK is used with the following technologies: conduction welding for the stringers, frame and beam assemblies, US spot welding for the short fibre IM clips, fast L-AFP for the skin and floor beams, local joggling of the CCM stringers, butt-joint tech for C-frames, press forming for many small parts and, monolithic sandwich pressing for the interior side panels.
Why and Whom
The MFFD Lower Shell is developed by the Stunning consortium for the CleanSky 2 Large Passenger Aircraft project, with the goal to structural reduce weight, reduce production cost and enable a high production rate up to 100 ac/mon. The weight saving reduces fuel burn and greenhouse gasses. The thermoplastic CFRP material with the applied technologies enables recycling and the reduction of waste.

Key Benefits
The technologies that are possible with thermoplastic CFRP material result in assembly methods with significant reduction of fasteners, a lower buy-to-fly ratio and processes that can be automated. The MFFD Lower Half has been designed and built as a fully equipped module, including wiring, interior elements and systems. All these benefits contribute to the high-level goals of the MFFD.
