The future generation of Aircraft cockpit linings
The use of thermoplastic composite offers the best compromise between weight and rigidity, and allows it to fit with the very complex shape of the product. In addition, the choice of a monolithic composite as an alternative to the existing thermoset sandwich material enables minimising the final thickness of the panel, and therefore reducing significantly its weight (in total 30%)
Why and Whom
This innovation consists in the association of a new complex lining design, conceived by the aircraft manufacturer, and the use of a recyclable glass fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite produced under Vacuum-Bag-Only (VBO) consolidation, developed by the technical materials manufacturer Porcher industries and designed by Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

Key Benefits
The design imagined by Airbus Commercial Aircraft, is innovating in its dimensions, larger than any ceiling lining panels ever designed for this aircraft, and including a double radius of curvature.Porcher Industries introduces thermoplastic composites, presenting advantages over thermosets in terms of recyclability, lightness thanks to thinner products, and better surface condition. This material is fully compliant with fire, smoke, toxicity and heat release requirements.
