First solar passenger ferry with natural fibres interiors

Bcomp Ltd
The solar-powered PROeco catmaran by Marservis is a pioneering waterbone mass transportation vessel using Bcomp''s natural fibre composites. Its interior parts combine ampliTex™ laminated with bio-based epoxy resing through vacuum infusion and a resin transfer moulding process. By combining renewable energy and natural fibres, this vessel marks a new era in sustainable mass mobility on waterways.

Why and Whom

Croatia-based marine manufacturer Marservis collabroated with Bcomp for interior parts of the solar-powered PROeco vessel ferrying up to 100 passengers in the Adriatic Sea. By using ampliTex™ natural fibre composite material in the construction of almost all non-structural and semi-structural components, emissions related to manufacturing are reduced, and this offers enhanced end-of-life options.

Key Benefits

Flax fibre composites are CO₂ e-neutral from cradle to gate. Replacing standard glass with ampliTex™ bio-based materials reduces manufacturing emissions, energy demands and enhances end-of-life options. With excellent vibration damping properties, flax fibre improves comfort while contributing to a lower carbon footprint throughout the vessel''s operational life.
