Cockpit - handlebar
The solution is a lightweight, hollow handlebar using fluidmelt injection molding with reinforced PA6 and carbon fiber tapes for increasing strength. It offers high resistance to bending and torsion while minimizing weight. Beyond handlebars, the process is being applied to bike frames, seat structures and other components that combine recyclability, durability and efficient production.
Why and Whom
Together with Canyon, Simoldes, Plastic Innovation, ARTEFAKT Design and DOMO Chemicals, ENGEL Austria developed an innovative, lightweight, and recyclable bicycle handlebar. The goal was to replace traditional aluminum solutions with sustainable thermoplastics, using automated production to meet the market demand for local, efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing.
