Aeronautic Mould manufactured using LSAM

WESTLAKE EPOXY
The product is part of a scaled mould for the aerospace sector manufactured by additive manufacturing using PA6 doped with carbon fibers in the form of pellets using a pellet extruder and a robot. Once the mould is manufactured, machining is needed for achieving the final surface finish for composite forming process. Both operations have been implemented and can be done in the same robot.

Why and Whom

The presented mould has been printed using the so called Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM) technology, which has been developed with the aim of printing big composites parts. The mould has been developed for the aerospace sector to be used during the forming process of final composite parts.

Key Benefits

LSAM technology has been developed for trying to introduce the 3D printing techonologies in the manufacturing of big parts with complex requirements. The benefits are those related to addtive manufacturing such as, desing freedom, lightweight parts, manufacturing time reduction and sustainability.
