Genesis of your product. why and for whom?
Initiatives such as the European Shift2Rail Programme are encouraging research into innovative rail product solutions. In the framework of the PIVOT Project, we have worked on the development of a train "car-body" with a high integration of composite material technologies.
Benefits for the final customers?
The implementation of composite materials in the carbody structure will reduce the overall weight of the train, and consequently will make it possible to increase the load (passengers and luggage) and the speed, while improving the reliability and quality of service of the European rail system.
The product : materials and processes
The train floor structure is the most critical part of the train carbody, it transmits most of the loads between the railway carriages. The scaled demonstrator consists of a one-shot process of composite sandwich structure with skins of semipreg carbon fibre material and integrated pultruded profiles. All materials comply with the demanding fire requirements of the UNE-EN 45545 European standard.
