Thermoplastic composite window frame
Genesis of your product. why and for whom?
The part results from a novel scrapping technology for thermoplastic composite recycling developed by AIMPLAS and TEKNIKER within the SPARTA European R&D project. The thermoplastic composite window frame was developed in a Dutch national program by the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR).
Benefits for the final customers?
- Scrap recovery, second-life material
- Weight reduction (around 400 g less than aluminum)
- Reduced energy consumption
- Reduced CO2 emissions
- Reduced processing time
- Improves the sector''s competitiveness
The product : materials and processes
The obtained scrap, in the form of unidirectional (UD) PEKK tapes reinforced with carbon fibre (CF), can be used for a compression moulding process. NLR developed a thermoplastic window frame that can be assembled by welding or co-consolidation.
