BENETEAU Group manufactures more than 30,000 composite parts per year to equip its boat decks. The aim is to use fibers with a reduced carbon impact. The choice was made to use hemp fibres for their low environmental impact, regional cultivation and availability on the market.

The use of composite materials in boating has enabled the development of lighter superstructures with a more innovative design while offering good mechanical properties and resistance to aging.The natural fiber composite used was qualified to withstand decades of heavy use.

The product : materials and processes

The manufacturing processes used are low-pressure injection and infusion with reusable or disposable covers. Chomarat developed a complex combining hemp and glass. The challenge was to optimize the stitching to provide a reinforcement with controlled deformations and regular surface homogeneity. These parameters were essential to adapt to the infusion process used by Beneteau Group.
