HVCRC® composite core conductor for overhead high voltage lines


Genesis of your product. why and for whom?

Fiber optic composite core HVCRC® conductor developed to monitor the installation and operation of high-temperature low-sag conductors for transmission and distribution overhead lines. It can detect cracks and monitor service life conditions.

Benefits for the final customers?

The composite core offers several advantages in comparison with a steel core:

  • Weight: 4 times lower
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion: 10 times lower
  • Tensile strength: 2 times higher
  • No corrosion

All these advantages allow a design of aluminum cables operating at high temperature without sag.

The product : materials and processes

Epsilon Composite manufactures HVCRC® composite cores by pultrusion, using aerospace grade carbon fibers and specific resin to ensure the highest performance and durability.

HVCRC® composite core includes an electrically insulating glass fiber layer, to increase the core performance and flexibility and protect the aluminum strands from galvanic corrosion. Optic fibers are added during pultrusion.
